Plus-Sized Model Search Attracts 98 Contestants

Fashion industry reps came to Lithonia looking for just the right model.

The Ashley Stewart and PLUS Model Magazine model search event at Stonecrest Mall in Lithonia on Sunday, May 5 was a big success. A total of 98 aspiring models, most of them local, met with PLUS Model Magazine Editor-In-Chief Madeline Jones and submitted applications in the national model search.

A fashion photographer from Forte Media Photography took professional shots of the applicants. Several volunteers from two organizations, “Curve Appeal” and “Pink City,” helped facilitate the application and photography process on-site.

Jones says the applicants ranged in age from a young girl receiving moral support from her mother to more mature women – and lots of ages in between.

“We had one model drive from Texas to the model search with her four children and husband. They were all there to support her and I was able to meet all of them. We also had this woman who came back after she had gone just to say ‘thank you, I felt special if just for one minute’."

Jones adds, “the energy was really great and everyone that came left with a smile. I greeted all of them, I hugged, took pictures and sometimes stopped to encourage a few that looked a little unsure and shy. It was a magical day!”
