LED Street Signs Installed in Stone Mountain CID

New signage is visible along Mountain Industrial Boulevard and Hugh Howell Road.

Crews will finish installing new, lighted street signs this week throughout the Stone Mountain Community Improvement District (CID).

A total of 24 signs illuminated by light-emitting diodes (LED) will be added at 10 intersections along Mountain Industrial Boulevard and at the Hugh Howell-Tucker Industrial Road intersection.

These signs will be attached to the mast arms above each intersection, replacing the existing metal street signs. Drivers will easily see the larger, more-visible signs positioned overhead once they are powered up during the first week of October.

“We believe these new signs will raise driver awareness and introduce a modern design to increase the area’s appeal for our business community,” said CID President Emory Morsberger. “We anticipate good results from this and other upgrades championed by the CID.”

The CID completed the sign project through grant funding provided by the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA). The CID is also currently working on the following transportation-related efforts:

Road improvements – The CID is coordinating with Zachary Williams, DeKalb County’s Executive Assistant and Chief Operating Officer, and the DeKalb County Roads and Drainage and Transportation Departments to identify substantial transportation improvements. The compiled list of infrastructure projects will be submitted to SRTA for grant funding consideration.

Bridge lighting – The CID is seeking to add pole-mounted lighting to the Mountain Industrial Boulevard bridge over Highway 78. Concept planning is underway to add five light polls on either side of the bridge, which is currently unlit. Alternatives are being evaluated, in coordination with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), to determine the most effective locations and types of lighting.
