Curls of the World Adds Natural Hair Salon

It was a natural next step for the shop, which features hair products free of harmful ingredients.

, the shop in Stone Mountain Village that carries natural hair care products, this week added a new salon called "Green Without Envy," and a natural hair stylist, Vanessa Carter.

"She's concerned with the well-being of [clients'] hair," said Chris Sharp, co-owner, with wife Rhian, of Curls of the World ).

Sharp said Carter is "filling the void. A lot of people are looking for a natural stylist that’s going to care for their hair."

Carter said she has worn her hair natural -- relaxer-free - since the late 1970s. She said she wants to bring customer service and education about natural hair to her clients.Β

"This is what I do," Carter said. "This is all about how I service people."

Natural hair is something that has piqued the interest of many local women. Earlier this month, was standing room-only.

Carter's approach and Curls of the World's goals are similar - to keep things simple, free of chemicals, healthy.

"When it comes to African American hair, we need somebody who's going to be dedicated," Carter said.
