DeKalb County Commissioner Sharon Barnes Sutton, speaking at the Thursday night meeting of Pride Rings in Stone Mountain (PRISM), said she is optimistic about the effect the world's largest retailer could have on Memorial Drive.

"It's going to bring jobs to this community," she said. "This is good for the entire county."

Some at the PRISM meeting mentioned concerns about the planned store, such as traffic and possibly driving away existing businesses.

Barnes Sutton said there needs to be more commerce on Memorial Drive, once a thriving corridor that has seen many prominent businesses move away over the years.

Instead of driving to other areas of metro Atlanta to shop and dine, "we need to have places to spend that money here," Barnes Sutton said.
