Bites Nearby: The Best Pizza Around

Pizza Cafe serves other things, but you gotta try the pizza.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out.

Here is this week's choice:

STONE MOUNTAIN PIZZA CAFE

Once a week it's pizza night for our family, and I don't feel a bit guilty about that. How else can you get all food groups in one gooey, chewy, tasty slice? And our place of choice is Stone Mountain Pizza Cafe. It's a kid-friendly place, and there's a bar and television sets (with NFL football on the 60 inch HDTV) for grownups. Or you could just watch the pizzas being hand-thrown in the kitchen.

The pizza comes in two sizes, 12 and 16 inches, and extra thick crust is an option. Or you can order it by the slice. The restaurant serves other traditional Italian dishes, including pasta and calzone, but also wings and sandwiches.

5370 Highway 78, Suite 600, Stone Mountain, 770-413-6717. Dress is casual. Kids menu available. Open Monday - Saturday, 11 a.m. - 11 p.m., Sundays 1 p.m. - 10 p.m.

I like Everybody's Pizza but it is so far away. I am very happy you did an article on a pizza place quite a bit nearer. Stone Mountain Pizza Cafe sounds interesting. I certainly will give it a try.

That's my husband's & my favorite place!! It reminds him of pizza back home in the Mediterranean. We love the staff, especially the bartenders. They're pretzels with marinara are great and even if you aren't in the mood for pizza, they have great wings - the sauce is perfect and the wings are meaty. What more could you ask for?! They also have lots of tvs showing all different sports or tv shows every night, they do trivia on Monday nights starting at 8pm (I think) & a patio for the summer time. Good stuff!

My favorite Pizza restaurant is daVIDO's Pizza on Covington Highway in Lithonia. The pizza toppings are fresh and the dough is made fresh every day. daVIDO's has the best philly steak sandwich south of Philadelphia and absolutely the best lemon pepper wings in the Atlanta area. The customer service is truly outstanding. They even have an economical $5.00 menu featuring pizza, wings, philly steak, spaghetti or salad. Good food, great service and reasonable prices; that's the American way. daVIDO's Pizza is perfect for lunch, dinner or an after school snack.

I think the staff is terrific, too. I need to try those pretzels.

Stone Mountain Pizza Cafe gets my vote. I love the pizza, sandwiches, and salads. They also have a lunch special, a very generous slice of pizza and a salad for $5.00. I also like the roomy booths and the fact that you never feel rushed.

Thanks for sharing about the lunch special, Dot. I didn't know that and will definitely be taking advantage of it.

Stone Mountain Pizza has always been the best around; HOWEVER, give MaMa Mia's a try. It relocated from Main Street in Stone Mountain Village to the Mountain Park/Trickum Community - at Rockbridge and Five Forks Trickum intersection (old Gwinnett Federal Building). They have some rooms for private parties and even a table or two in the 'vault'. The staff is very friendly and great service. I'm lovin' it!!! JBHarrison
