Bites Nearby: Sweet Dee's Bakeshop

Judging from the steady stream of customers coming into every day, it's safe to say this new bakeshop on Main Street in Tucker is already a hit.

It's a simple, clever concept. Cupcakes, freshly made, and lots of them. Just looking at the things in the display cabinet is a joy in itself.

Employee Sheila Adams kindly wrote down the list of flavors for me - Red Velvet, Lemon, Lemon Strawberry, Chocolate Butter Cream, Vanilla Salted Caramel, Midnight Chocolate - you get the idea. 

There's a cupcake of the day too. Today's is Blueberry Ricotta and a coffee one thrown in for good measure. 

Besides all these tempting desserts, Sweet Dee's has coconut or carrot cake, cookies, brownies, and ice cream, as well as espresso and regular coffee. Cakes can be special-ordered, too. 

Prices go like this: Cupcakes are $2.75 each; $15 half-dozen; $27 dozen. Cakes are $5 a slice and $37 for a whole one. Cookies are $1.75. Brownies are $8 a half dozen.

also has a special room for birthday parties, baby or bridal showers, and club or group meetings. “I really want to create a place where friends and family can come together and share in the fun of food,” says Sweet Dee’s owner Denise Dayoub, “and what’s more fun than dessert?”

She's planning on launching "Design Your Own Dessert' soon where you'll be able to choose the filling, frosting and topping for very own cupcake. If she really likes it, she will add it to the regular menu.

The place opened in April, rather quietly, and that was on purpose. Dayoub wanted to get a handle on demand before announcing it to everyone. As it happened, word of mouth got around and she was forced to close early on several ocassions, having simply sold out of cupcakes.

Good problem to have. Now she's ready to celebrate with a Grand Opening on Wednesday, June 20, from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. There will be a kids' art project and contest, as well as prizes for all ages. On top of that, Sweet Dee’s will give customers a free scoop of ice cream with every purchase.*
