UPDATED: L.A. Fitness Panola Posts Interior Shots

Updated 3/6 at 2:08 p.m.:

The exterior of the new L.A. Fitness going up on Panola and Covington in Lithonia is quite impressive. The company recently posted a few shots of work going on inside on its Facebook page.

Photos include a wooden floor under construction and large signage ("Motivate," "Dream," "Friendship" etc). In fact, there are photos of the project at various stages of construction on the Facebook page.

Hidden Hills Overlay District Impact

A special zoning district, known as an overlay, seems to be effective in the Hidden Hills community of unincorporated Stone Mountain.

The Hidden Hills Civic Association sent out an e-mail, titled "Overlay Working," and here is one of the examples of its success:

The developer of a proposed gas station/convenience store has been told that his idea will not be allowed unless he gets Board of Commissioner approval. Such approval is unlikely since this board voted unanimously in favor of the overlay. The 10-acre site under consideration is on Adcox Road and Redan, behind Kroger. The owner bought the property five or six months ago and never checked the zoning.

Also, the e-mail stated, a cell tower will soon be built across from the Berean Christian Church; and sidewalk and landscaping upgrades are on the way around the new Zaxby's, which is nearly complete, on S. Hairston Road.

The Greater Hidden Hills Overlay District was signed into law in December 2011. The district covers about four square miles and is bordered by Covington Highway, S. Hairston Road, Redan Road and Panola Road.
