600 Applied for 20 New RaceTrac Jobs

The new station off Redan Road, under a fresh design that will be the model for all future RaceTrac stores, had its grand opening Thursday.

The new RaceTrac gas station at 3858 Covington Highway at the corner of Redan Road is fueling more than just cars.

it also stoked a lot of interest from people looking for work.

The company received more than 600 applications; 20 jobs have been filled, said Sherri Scott, director of communicatios with RaceTrac, at its grand opening Thursday, in which the Redan High School Blue Thunder performed.

Senior vice president with Smyrna-based RaceTrac, Allison Moran, whose grandfather started the company, said the development is a "unique opportunity to be part of [the area's] revitalization."

The RaceTrac store, which is in nearby unincorporated Decatur, was also constructed under a new design that the  company calls "RT6K."

As the name implies, the store is 6,000 square feet (about 1,000 square feet larger than previous stores), and has features such as free Wifi, indoor and outdoor seating, a huge frozen yogurt spot with 10 "Swirl World" frozen yogurt flavors and more than 40 toppings (there was a big crowd of Redan students in that area), choice of sandwiches, hot dogs, fruits, and a walk-in beer cooler.

"Moving forward, all our stores will look like this," Scott said.
