Get Out: A Look at What to Do This Weekend

Annual fall festivals, haunted houses and more line up this weekend's events list.

Granite Grasshopper 5K Run

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 8, 8 a.m., , 922 Main Street, Stone Mountain.

Why Go: This weekend marks the first Granite Grasshopper 5K road race and fun run, benefitting Main Street Stone Mountain, Stone Mountain Elementary School, Champion Middle and Stone Mountain High. Awards will be given to the top three male and female winners of each age group.

Pricing: Pricing ranges from $10 to $25.

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 8, noon-9 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 9, noon-8 p.m., The Village Corner German Bakery, 6655 James B. Rivers Road, Stone Mountain.

Why Go: When the five-points area of Stone Mountain Village is blocked off for an entire fall weekend, residents know what that means: Oktoberfest. The German Bakery is holding the annual festival with lots of beer (including 12 beer drafts), live German music and dancers, lots of kids activities, a puppet show, fresh produce, and arts and crafts.

Pricing: Free admission and free parking.

Lilburn Daze

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 8, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., , 76 Main Street, Lilburn.

Why Go: It's the annual Lilburn Festival this weekend! Check out more than 200 vendors offering food, arts and crafts, toys and more, in addition to the pony rides, petting zoo and other family activities. Presented by the GFWC Lilburn Woman's Club, make sure to start the fall season on the right foot (and with the right festival). 

Pricing: Free admission.

Etali's Consignment Grand Opening

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 8, 9 a.m.-11 p.m., E’tali’s Consignment, 112 Main Street, Lilburn.

Why Go: After going to Lilburn Daze, make sure to stop by Old Town's newest shop, . It'll be open all day with an artists' market out front, vintage clothing and face painting. A new store, Repeat Boutique, is also opening next door, where Little Shop of Art and Antiques had been.

Pricing: Free.

Music Under the Stars and Taste of Tucker 2011

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 8, 4 p.m.-8 p.m., , 5095 LaVista Road, Tucker.

Why Go: Another annual festival returns this weekend with more music, more food and more activities for the whole fam. Enjoy live performances from The Forgiven, Sozo and more for Music Under the Stars and Battle of the Praise Bands; sample food from Sangria's, Riverside Pizza, Marlow's Tavern and other local eateries; and participate in activities for the whole family.

Pricing: Free admission, and food sample plates cost between $1 to $4.

Netherworld Haunted House

When/Where: Everyday, , Netherworld Haunted House, 6624 Dawson Boulevard, Norcross.

Why Go: Now in its 15th year, Netherworld is meant to haunt and scare like nothing other. The main attraction, the Nightmares, are filled with zombies, werewolves and more monsters, and, for those feeling limber, check out the phobia shows of coulrophobia (afraid of clowns) and entomophobia (fear of insects). Pricing: Tickets range from $22 to $28 depending on the attraction.  

Children, Baby and Maternity Consignment Sale

When/Where: Friday, Oct. 7, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 8, 9 a.m.-noon, Preschool and Kindergarten, 1520 Oak Road, Snellville.

Why Go: Snag clothing, shoes, toys, bedding and other kid-related items for as much as half-off at St. Matthew's consignment sale. All proceeds with benefit the non-profit school. 

Pricing: Free to browse.

Health Fair at Living Grace Lutheran Church

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 8, 9 a.m.-noon, Living Grace Lutheran Church, 1812 Cooledge Road, Tucker.

Why Go: is having a day to physically benefit yourself and others. Those who stop by can get a flu shot, have their blood pressures checked, donate blood and more.

Pricing: Free.
