Get Out: A Look at What to Do This Weekend

Yellow Daisy Festival

When/Where: Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 8-11, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on all days except 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, , 1000 Robert E. Lee Drive, Stone Mountain. 

Why Go: Grab some amazing art at this year's Yellow Daisy Festival. Featuring 400-plus artists from all around the country, the festival will also have kids' activities, craft demonstrations and live entertainment. 

Pricing: Free with $10 vehicle entrance fee or annual pass. 

Black Cat & Bully Bonanza

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 10, 7:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m., AARF Pet Central, 6570 James B. Rivers Drive, Stone Mountain. 

Why Go: is having an evening of drinks, appetizers and raffles to raise awareness on the bad rap black cats and pit bulls often receive. Guests will learn more about the two pets, as well as other AARF cats and dogs. 

Pricing: $20 for advance tickets (which can be purchased online) and $25 at the door. Ticket sales will go toward the AARF cat and adoption rooms and foster programs.

Fashion's Night Out

When/Where: Thursday, Sept. 8, 6 p.m.-9 p.m., The Avenue at Webb Gin, 1350 Scenic Highway, Snellville. 

Why Go: Fashionistas, unite! Join the Avenue to celebrate the national evening of Fashion's Night Out with live music, a photo booth, giveaways and more. Giftbags go out to the first 200 people who show up, so get there early. 

Pricing: Free. 

"Steel Magnolias"

When/Where: Friday-Saturday, Sept. 9-10, 8 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 11, 2:30 p.m., , 2485 Main Street, Snellville. 

Why Go: Watch the stage adaptation of the 1989 film about the daily lives of Shelby and her group of salon parlor friends in a Louisiana town. The comedy drama touches on everything from men to friendships to weddings to pregnancy, while adding a steady amount of comic relief. 

Pricing: Tickets are $12.60 each and can be purchased online or at the door. 

Mountain Park Fitness Open House

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 10, 9 a.m.-noon, Mountain East Community Church, 5365 Five Forks Trickum Road, Lilburn. 

Why Go: Just because it's not swimsuit season anymore doesn't mean you should stop living a fit and healthy life. Mountain Park Fitness is having an open house at to promote its thin and healthy program, concentrating not just exercise but all aspects of life through motivation, movement and life success. Check out the open house for the center's different programs, prizes, Zumba demos, and free facials and body sculpting.

Hands on Atlanta Day at

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 10, 9 a.m.-noon, Annistown Elementary School, 3150 Spain Road, Snellville.

Why Go: There's a way to donate to education without opening your wallet, and that's by volunteering. The Annistown Elementary School PTA Environmental Committee has organized a day for keeping the school green and polished. Open to those 5 years old and up, the projects for the day include replanting gardens, building birdhouses and constructing a picnic table for the school.

DeKalb Preparedness Festival

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., 5073 Lavista Road, Tucker. 

Why Go: September is National Preparedness Month, and DeKalb County is having their 2nd annual festival on preparing families for manmade and natural emergency situations. See around 35 vendors including DeKalb police and fire, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta and Safe Kids of DeKalb. Tons of kids activities, from touring an actual fire truck to playing a scavenger hunt, will also be available.

International Cuisine Spectacular and Open House

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 10, 10:30 a.m., , 1927 Lakeside Parkway, Tucker. 

Why Go: Interested in taking a culinary class or two? Le Cordon Bleu staff will give a tour of the campus and give a presentation on attending the school. Afterward, get a taste of international cuisine as top instructors cook up worldly foods, as well as give out cooking tips.
