Five Things to Know Today, April 25

Three events you don't want to miss in the village today, and one in Atlanta if you're having trouble with your mortgage.

Welcome to a new week, Stone Mountain. Have you digested all that Easter candy yet? Here are five things to know about today.

Lunch and a show: There's a Lunchtime Series at ART Station today at noon with previews of the upcoming show "Bonnie & Clyde, The Two Person, Six Gun Musical.”  A discussion with the actors will follow the performance.

Welcome to the neighborhood: Main Street Stone Mountain is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony at The Crab Pot, a new restaurant at 961 Main Street, at 2:30 p.m.

Among friends: The Friends of the Sue Kellogg Library meet at 7:30 p.m. at the library. The speaker is Mark Swanson, a historian at New South Associates. The weather: This is getting boring. There's a 20 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. The high will be about 81 degrees, with some sun.

This day in history: U.S. troops coming from the west and Soviet forces from the east met at the Elba River in 1945  -- the beginning of the end of Nazi Germany and WWII. In 1886, Sigmund Freud opened his practice in the Rathausgasse in Vienna. In 1850, Baron Paul Julius Reuter used 40 carrier pigeons to carry stock market prices. (He was the founder of Reuters news agency, now Thomson Reuters). In 1956, Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel was No. 1 in the charts.

Don't lose your home: There will be a Housing and Urban Development workshop on foreclosure prevention at 9:30 a.m. in Atlanta, and HUD staff will be talking about tools to avoid foreclosure. Click here for more information. (Yes, I know that's six things, but this is a bonus since it's not in our Patch. And it's important. Spread the word. And have a fantastic Monday. More to come tomorrow. Ok, yes, I know, enough already. I'm really going now. Bye.)
