Director, Illustrator to Open Exhibit

“What Should the New Map Look Like?," with art from film "General Orders No. 9," to run from Thursday to April 7 at Gallery 515

Atlanta director Robert Persons and Decatur illustrator Bill Mayer will appear Thursday night at in Buckhead for the opening of “What Should the New Map Look Like?,”  an exhibit of art created and collected for Persons' film, "General Orders No. 9."

The exhibit, which runs from Thursday through Saturday, April 7, will feature a series of orginal drawings by Mayer, art and photography created for the film and limited edition books and prints, according to a news release.

Persons and Mayer will be at the opening night reception from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Mayer created a series of flora and fauna drawings for the film, including a pipe-smoking rabbit that's become the film's symbol.

Called "a visionary film of the American South" in the announcement, "General Orders No 9" is characterized as a "dream — and a nightmare — of Southern history."

Along with "images central to the mythology of the film," the exhibit will
present a collection of rare Georgia maps, the annoucement said.
