Whiz Kid: Eric Isom

Each week, Stone Mountain Patch features an outstanding kid or teen or a group of them, picked from readers' suggestions. 

Our Whiz Kid this week is Eric Isom, 14 years old.

School: Champion Theme Middle School

Accomplishment: Eric has made honor roll every year at Champion and is being wooed by some of the nation's top prep schools, according to Champion.

Key to his awesomeness: Eric is very self-motivated, says Champion Principal Angelique Smith-Hunt. He's a member of the 2011 school's basketball team, which won this year's championship in the county. "He's an active member of the Beta Club and Morning News Crew, which are examples of his commitment to his academics and community service, e.g. Pennies for Patients and Toy Drives," Smith-Hunt says.

Eric aims to attend MIT with a major in engineering, specializing in computer engineering. "Eric is one of my top students and I am recommending him as a Whiz Kid because he demonstrates daily his intelligence, respectfulness, and zeal for excellence."

Eric, who is quiet and polite,  said he hopes to attend Phillips Exeter Academy next year.
