Weekend Planner: Lewis Grizzard Play, Pumpkin Festival, Clarkston Farmers Market, State Parks Day

Here's a look at what's happening locally this weekend.

Lewis Grizzard: In His Own Words

When: Friday, September 28, 8 p.m.; Saturday, September 29, 3 and 8 p.m.; Sunday, September 30, 3 p.m.

Where: ART Station, 5384 Manor Drive, Stone Mountain

Why go: Critics and Lewis Grizzard fans have praised this show -- and actor Bill Oberst, Jr. in the title role -- which has been to ART Station for the past eleven seasons, playing to sold-out audiences.  There have been 850 shows across the U.S. over a yen-year period.

Update: ART Station has announced that the play will return January 18, 19 and 20, 2013.

10th Annual Pumpkin Festival

When: Fridays through Sundays, September 28 - October 28

Where: Stone Mountain Park's Crossroads area

Why go: Enjoy this sweet, "non-spooky" dedication to fall at Stone Mountain Park, which is chock full of fun activities including "The Mayor’s Rockin’ Costume Party", where children can wear Halloween costumes, dance around on stage with the Mayor of Pumpkinfest and learn new fun choreographed dances including the Pumpkin Mash. Among the festival's new features is Spookley the Square Pumpkin, a character from Author Joe Troiano’s book “The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin," described as -- ah-hem-- the "spokes-pumpkin” for National Bullying Prevention Month during October.

Clarkston Farmer's Market

When: Sunday, Sept. 30, 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Where: Clarkston Community Center, 3701 College Ave, Clarkston

Why go: Fresh from the garden/farm food in a nearby town.

State Parks Day at Panola Mountain

When: Saturday, Sept. 29

Where: Panola Mountain State Park, 2600 Highway 155 SW, Stockbridge, GA

Why go: From the Patch calendar listing on State Parks Day -The Friends of your Georgia state parks and historic sites are inviting you to join us at Panola Mountain for Your State Parks Day on September 29, 2012 in honor of National Public Lands Day. The parking fee is waived on this day in order to invite you to spend some time volunteering with us or to simply come out to the parks to enjoy these treasured resources.
