Ranger Rendezvous

When: Saturday, Jan. 26, 9-11:30 a.m.

Where: Davidson-Arabia Nature Preserve, 3787 Klondike Road, Lithonia

Who's this for: Probably not best for kids; this is described as a rugged hike.

Why go: Challenge yourself on this 4-5 mile, moderate-to-difficult hike.

Bat and Bog Turtle Conservation Efforts

When: Saturday, Jan. 26, 10-11 a.m.

Where: Davidson-Arabia Nature Preserve, 3787 Klondike Road, Lithonia

Who's this for: People interested in these conservation initiatives.

Why go: Come learn more about the efforts from Katrina Morris, a Department of Natural Resources wildlife biologist (she'll talk bout bat conservation) and DNR wildlife biologist Thomas Floyd (bog turtles).

How much: Free, but donations will be asked for to support DNR's non-game conservation fund. Atlanta Wild Animal Rescue Effort (AWARE) will match all donations.

Snow Mountain at Stone Mountain Park

When: Through Feb. 18

Where: Stone Mountain Park

Who's this for: Everyone

Why go: Dash through the snow!

How much: A Snow Mountain Pass is $27 (plus tax) for adults and children.

On Decatur Patch

Red Brick Beer School. The Beer Growler in Avondale Estates will host a beer schol led by Red Brick's new head brewer. He'll talk about winter ales and introduce their anniversary ale, "The Lost Years." 7 p.m. Sunday. $30

Learn healthy cooking at the Decatur Library. Les Dames d’Escoffier International members Kristy Cook and Nancy Lutz will teach you how to host a party with healthy foods. 10 a.m. Saturday at the Decatur Library. Free.
