Volunteer Opportunities: Charity Day, Street Outreach, ART Station Help

Here are a few ways you can help local organizations.

Have some time and talent you can bring to a local organization in need? The following are just a few opportunities to lend a hand or give back.

Atlanta Animal Rescue Friends at Belk Charity Day

When: November 3, 6 - 10 a.m.

Where: Snellville Belk Store

Why help: Volunteers are needed to assist AARF in raising money by selling tickets at $5 each at this private sale. AARF keeps 100 percent of ticket proceeds, and the ticket holder gets various discounts on Belk purchases.

Contact:  If you can volunteer for this event, please email Susan at susan@aarfatlanta.org

Street Outreach Volunteers for Young People Matter, Inc.

When: Weekly

Where: Streets of metro Atlanta

Why help: Volunteers are needed to assist staff members at Young People Matter -- which operates a shelter for homeless youth and other services -- go out into the streets to find youth. Staff and volunteers distribute everything from food packages and toiletries to emergency medical supplies and clothing. They can also provide a listening ear.

The outreach lasts four hours, and training and transportation are provided: Thursdays: 4–9 p.m.; Sundays, 2–6 p.m.

You must be at least 17. The outreach involves a lot of walking. Click here to register to volunteer.

ART Station Volunteers

When: Various hours throughout the day

Where: ART Station, 5384 Manor Drive  Stone Mountain

Why help: There are quite a few options available at different times of day if you'd like to volunteer at ART Station, located in the city of Stone Mountain: ushering at theatre productions, working the bar, hosting, and even bringing your corporate know-how to the table by becoming a board member, the website says.
