Update on Vandalized Community Pool

There's a board of appeals meeting this week on the new pool house and more donations are needed for pool operating costs.

The saga of the Hearthstone pool continues.

Members of the community off Memorial Drive near Hambrick, whose , will attend a DeKalb County Board of Appeals hearing scheduled for Wednesday at the Maloof building in Decatur. The issue: the future of the rebuilt pool house because of a flood plain.

And donations are still needed for pool operating costs, said Vernell Kimbrough, president of the Hearthstone Community Club. Anyone interested in contributing can contact hearthstone@hearthstonecommunity.com and pick-up arrangements will be made, Kimbrough said.

This past April, three students from the DeKalb Alternative School were charged with criminal damage to property in connection with the vandalism of the pool.

Purina's Tidy Cats heard about the community's pool vandalism and, with its "PU Patrol" hired local contractors to get things cleaned up and fixed. Tidy Cats even purchased new pool pumps.
