New Stone Mountain Book Out Now
Local Historic Society showcases life in Stone Mountain.
A new book about the history of Stone Mountain is being released today, Monday, Jan. 6, in time for the city's 175th birthday.
It's called 'Stone Mountain' and has more than 200 vintage photographs of the city and its surroundings, including a series taken in 1903 along the Georgia Railroad, showing its appearance at the start of the twentieth century.
Arcadia Publishing describes the book as "a story that reflects Georgia’s history and captivates its unique small town life."
“The book was truly a community effort, compiled by volunteers,” said Mary Beth Reed, board member of the Stone Mountain Historical Society.
A portion of the profits from sales will be donated to the Stone Mountain Historical Society to help fund the creation of a digital archive. It's available at area bookstores, or through Arcadia at 888-313-2665, or online.
