Last-Minute Ideas for Dad Right in the Village

Still don't have a gift for Father's Day? Here are a few ideas, all conveniently located in or near the village.

It doesn't have to be a tie, even if it is the last minute. For the extreme procrastinators -- or the extremely busy -- here are a few ideas for a gift for dad that can be bought in or close to downtown Stone Mountain:

A photo in costume: Pop in to the Stage Door Old Time Photo at 5348 East Mountain Street and have your photo made in an antebellum costume. Then head across the street to the Old Post Office Emporium to find a frame to put it in.

Speaking of the OPO Emporium: You can find Civil War and other antiques, books and all kinds of fascinating gifts here. Tonight is customer appreciation evening, Walk and Wine at the shop, where they are celebrating 33 years of business with cake, wine samples and hors d’ oeuvres. What better way is there to shop?

Sweets for the sweet: Stone Mountain Bakery opened on Main Street just a few weeks ago, and they've got some delicious cakes and other baked goods. Continental Coffee and Sweets on Main also has mouth-watering cake truffles you won't find anywhere else, and of course all kinds of fresh coffee beans.

Bond over a golf game: Treat Dad to a day on the links at Stone Mountain Park or at Southland Golf Course.

For the green thumb: Does Dad like to garden? Check out the nice selection of flowers and plants at Hall's Flower Shop and Garden Center on Memorial Drive. They also have gift baskets just for Father's Day.

A family night out: The movie Megamind will be shown tonight (it's free!) on the lawn at the First Baptist Church pavilion in the village, and a number of restaurants are offering discounts for the evening, including Artisan and the Village Corner German Restaurant.
