Get Out: The Weekend Planner

Suggestions for things to do in the area this weekend.

With Daylight Saving Time last weekend and lasting warm temperatures, there should be no excuse to get out and about this weekend. St. Patty's Day events, free around-the-house workshops and complimentary food and drinks fill this weekend's itinerary, so put on your best going-out outfit and have some fun.

WALK & WINE 

When/Where: Saturday, March 19, 6 p.m.-8 p.m., Stone Mountain Old Post Office Emporium, 5379 East Mountain Street, Stone Mountain.

Why Go: Every third Saturday, Stone Mountain Village holds its monthly Walk & Wine (or Customer Appreciation Day) where Village merchants gather at the Old Post Office to serve wine samples, finger foods and tasty treats to everyone that comes. Vendors will also have their merchandise available for purchase, and for those that like the wine, those will be for sale, too. 

Pricing: Free.

SHABBY TO CHIC, HOME & GARDEN WORKSHOPS AND BRUNCH

When/Where: Saturday, March 19, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., the Lilburn Stake Center at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1150 Cole Drive, Lilburn.

Why Go: The Lilburn Stake Center at LDS is having a series of free workshops this Saturday, including a free brunch beforehand. Creative cake decorating, vegetable growing, interior home painting and haircutting are just a few of the helpful classes they're having for free.  

Pricing: Free. Sign-ups aren't required, but register here so the Stake Center can get a head count. 

SATURDAYS BRIDGE MIXER

When/Where: Saturday, March 19, 1 p.m.-5 p.m., 50 & Better Center, 2245 Dillard Street, Tucker. 

Why Go: If it's been a while since you've seen Grandma, then Eldercare Systems Inc. gives you a reason to. Every Saturday, the caregiver and companion-to-seniors business holds a bridge mixer for senior citizens to meet and mingle with others. So grab Grandma (or Grandpa), make sure she has her best dress on, and show her a good time with other seniors on Saturday. 

Pricing: A $3 donation is appreciated since the center operates on contributions. 

LILBURN COMMUNITY GARAGE SALE, PEGGY SULLENS PLEN AIR PAINTING

When/Where: Saturday, March 19, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., City of Lilburn Overflow Parking Lot, Main Street, Lilburn.

Why Go: With nearly 50 parking spaces of vendors to prop their items for sale, it'll be practically impossibe to find an item or two that you can't not purchase. Mingle with others, peruse the tables and support the local community of Lilburn at their annual garage sale. Tip for all you garage and yard sale newbies: Bring a bag or two for your loot. You'll thank us later.

Also, stop by The Little Shop of Antiques from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. (open early because of the yard sale) to meet and talk with the newest artist to exhibit her paintings of flowers, landscapes and portraits, Peggy Sullens.

WELLNESS ON WHEELS

When/Where: Friday, March 18, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Centerville Medical Center, 3550 Centerville Highway, Snellville.

Why Go: OK, this isn't the most exciting (or pleasant) thing to do on your free time, but it could save your life. DeKalb Medical's Wellness on Wheels is offering mammogram checkups on a mobile bus right in Snellville. So, if you're conveniently shopping for groceries or shoes in the area, stop by and make an appointment.
