Five Things to Know Today, April 8

A chance for more rain today, but the weekend is looking good.

What could be better than a Friday in spring? Well, maybe a Saturday, but Friday isn't too shabby. Here are a few things to know about today.

1. High school sports: Stephenson High School plays Lakeside in baseball at home, 6 p.m. Redan plays Southwest DeKalb (away) on Saturday at 3 p.m.

2. Not sure what to do this weekend? Patch has some ideas for things nearby. Have a look at the Weekend Planner by clicking on the link.Β

3. The weather: A high of 78 degrees is in the forecast, but so is a chance for more rain and thunderstorms. It'll be cloudy, in any case. The current temperature is in the upper right of the Patch page. Let your mouse hover over it to see an extended forecast. Looks like we're in for a terrific weekend, with temps in the upper 80s.

4.Β Patch today: Check back later for a feature on PRISM (Pride Rings in Stone Mountain). Art Beat takes a look at the lesser-known talents of Hilde Friese, an artist best known for her baking skills at Village Corner German Restaurant and Bakery. And, as always, breaking news.

5. On this day in 1974, the Atlanta Braves' Hank Aaron made his 715th home run, breaking Babe Ruth's record. On the same day, Pablo Picasso died. And on April 8, 1935, the Works Progress Administration was approved.Β
