Good morning, Stone Mountain! Here are five things to know today.

Attention, Memorial Drive business owners and managers: The first Memorial Drive merchants meeting will be held at Chick-fil-A on Memorial Drive at 8 a.m. It's hosted by DeKalb Chief Executive Officer Burell Ellis and State Rep. Michele Henson. The aim is to get an active merchants association going to fight crime and restore Memorial Drive to its former heyday status.

Organizations: TheRotary Club meets as 12:15 at Smoke Rise Country Club. Stone Mountain  Toastmasters meet at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopalian Church at 7 p.m.

Sports: Stephenson High School plays East Coweta at 6 p.m.,  according to the DeKalb County Baseball Media Guide.

Today in history: In 1986, a nuclear reactor at Chernobyl in Ukraine exploded. It is still considered the worst nuclear disaster ever. In 1954, a nationwide test of the polio vaccine began, leading to the eradication of the disease in most of the world today. April 26, 1994 was the beginning of the first multi-racial elections in South Africa, which resulted in the election of Nelson Mandela as the first black president of the country.
