Five Things to Know Today, April 19

Keep your head down. April 19 has been a pretty violent place to be in U.S. history. Here are some things to know about the day.

City hall: The monthly Stone Mountain city council working session is tonight at 6 p.m. at city hall. Check Patch later today for the agenda.

Sports: Stephenson High School plays Luella, away, at 5:30 p.m, according to the schedule.

Jobs: Today is McDonald's National Hiring Day, and the company aims to hire about 1,000 people at 277 locations in the metro area. Click here for more information.

This day in history: On April 19, 1995, a terrorist attack on the Alfred B. Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City killed 168 people, and almost 700 were injured. It was the worst such attack on U.S. soil before Sept. 11, 2001. Two years earlier, the siege of a Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, ended in a fire and the death of 76 people. On this day in 1775, the American Revolution began with the "shot heard around the world."
