Farewell to the 'Peanut Shack'

Decrepit building in City of Stone Mountain scheduled to come down this weekend.

Over the next couple of days, volunteers will begin taking down a building known as "the peanut shack," a broken-down structure in the City of Stone Mountain.

City council member Richard Mailman, part of the all-volunteer effort, said the building, near the and across from the plaza where is located, got its name because peanuts were once cooked there all the time. But Mailman estimates that the structure has been closed for more than a decade.

"It's an eyesore," he said. Others in the community agreed.
