Bites Nearby: Mah Jong Restaurant

This restaurant has an array of traditional dishes at reasonable prices.

Each week, Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here is this week's choice:

This Snellville restaurant is named after a traditional Chinese game, Mah Jong. In the game, four persons with tiles resembling dominoes - and with various symbols - draw and discard the tiles until one player wins with a hand of four combinations of three tiles each and a pair of matching tiles. So, when you pick from the menu, you know you're going to get an array of choices expected at a traditional Chinese restaurant.

This location has become a favorite of some looking for a dine-in experience at take-out prices. Located in Presidential Markets shopping center, a few stores down from Ross, this small Chinese restaurant has a long lunch and dinner menu. There's everything from stuffed crab claws to a dish the owners call "Mint Leaves Triple Delight," an entree of chicken, beef, shrimp, vegetables and mint leaves sauce. Of course, there are the other dishes many look for in a Chinese eatery: Mongolian beef, hot and sour soup, dumplings and more. Β

Sure, there are other restaurants around, certainly many of them of Asian flair. But Patch took a look inside this restaurant's health inspection reports to see if there were any known egregious problems at Mah Jong, and there aren't. Well, at least, there weren't any the last time health inspectors came knocking. In February, this eatery received a score of 91, an A. Back in December 2010, it received a perfect score - 100. So, while there are many places to choose from, Mah Jong may be worth a try. The food is reasonably priced, there's a menu with lots to chose from, and health inspectors give it a thumbs up.
