Arbor Day in Stone Mountain Village

DeKalb Master Gardeners and the Historic Society joined up to plant three trees at the Wells Brown House.

The DeKalb County Extension Master Gardeners and the Stone Mountain Historic Society joined together Friday to celebrate Arbor Day by planting three trees at the Wells Brown House in Stone Mountain Village.

Master Gardeners arrived at 9:30 a.m. to dig holes for the three native trees – a large dogwood, a maple and a redbud - donated by the Master Gardener Program.  By noon, 30-40 people had arrived and were welcomed by Stone Mountain City Mayor Pat Wheeler and our DeKalb County Extension Horticulture Agent, Gary Peiffer.

After a ceremonial completion of the tree-planting the group stayed outside to enjoy the sunshine in the Wells Brown grounds - until reminded that there were refreshments indoors prepared by members of the Historic Society! Kathryn Wright, the Historical Society Vice President for House and Grounds, gave personal tours of the house, with its history, to those who were visiting it for the first time.

The weather was perfect, the trees were well-planted, the food was delicious, and everyone had a good time!
