UPDATED: AARF Gets New A/C Unit

Atlanta Animal Rescue Friends has received donations toward getting the new air conditioner, which replaces an older unit that quit earlier this month. The group needs additional funding help as duct work needs to be completed.

posted this update on Thursday, Aug. 16 on the organization's Facebook page about its air conditioning situation, which began earlier this month when the facility's 35 year-old unit quit:

The new air conditioner is being installed today! Thanks to everyone who has donated so far. So far, we have raised 55% of our initial goal. We found out this morning that the existing ductwork is installed incorrectly, so we are looking at a higher cost than we thought.

Here is a previous message from Susan Leisure of (AARF) in the city of Stone Mountain on AARF's busted air conditioning unit:

The news on our ancient air conditioner is not good. We found out this morning that the unit (which also is our source of heat during the winter) is more than 35 years old and is likely original to the building, which was built in 1974. There is just no way to even begin to make repairs to get it functioning again.
We have an estimate for replacing the unit of approximately $4000. This will give us a new air conditioner and heat pump, which will be more efficient at cooling and heating the front of the facility, which includes the cat adoption room.Β
In addition, we have an anonymous donor who has agreed to match any funds we raise dollar for dollar, up to $4000. We are so grateful for this donor's generosity, but we need your help to raise the matching funds. (We have started a Chip-In page, so you can track the progress. So far, we have raised $320, so the Chip In starts at $3680).
Thanks for your help in getting the cats at AARF Pet Central cool again!

Here is Leisure's original message about the air conditioning:

The air conditioning unit at AARF Pet Central has quit! It's a very old unit, as you can see from the picture, and we were hoping it would make it through this summer. Unfortunately, the stress of the extremely hot weather has worn out the motor and the whole unit has seized. We really need to get someone out to try to fix it, but we need your help! We are facing at least several hundred dollars in repairs, or even more if we have to completely replace the unit. Β  We need to act as quickly as we can. The AARF kitties are relying on fans right now, but the heat is nearing 100 degrees again! We are trying to keep them cool, but without any air conditioning,Β it's really hot in their adoption room

If you know of a good HVAC company that may be willing to take a look at the unit quickly, please forward the information to susan@aarfatlanta.org.
