The Mall at Stonecrest in Lithonia for the first time will open at 12 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 23 - the big holiday shopping day-after-Thanksgiving known as "Black Friday."
The mall opened on Black Friday 2011 at 5 a.m., five hours later than anchor department stores Kohl's and Macy's. It didn't take the mall's director of marketing, Donald Bieler, long to see that it may have missed an opportunity.
"Everybody rushed out at midnight, went home, slept, and refreshed," he said.
The mall is requesting 100 percent participation from smaller shops to open at midnight, except from service-based businesses such as LensCrafters, Bieler said. There are more than 100 shops in the mall.
In addition, Kohl's, and Macy's will open at midnight on Black Friday at the mall, Bieler said. Sears will open the earliest, at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. JC Penneys will open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday, and Dillards at 8 a.m. that day.
