5K, Oktoberfest in Stone Mountain Village Oct. 8

Fundraising race will benefit Stone Mountain schools and the Village; Oktoberfest adds new historical tour

Sounds like a good plan for a fall day: run or walk for a good cause, get some cool stuff for doing so, then stick around to enjoy authentic German food, culture, and festival fun. Β 

Stone Mountain Village's first annual Granite Grasshopper 5K and Fun Run is on Saturday, Oct. 8. Oktoberfest starts the same day.

People who register for the 5K by next Thursday, Sept. 15 are guaranteed a long sleeve sweat shirt; Fun Run participants are guaranteed a long sleeve T-shirt.

The 8 a.m. race begins and ends at l, and includes a jaunt through a section of .

Then, starting at noon through 9 pm Oct. 8, the fourth annual Oktoberfest takes place outside . The festival continues Sunday, Oct. 9 from 12-8 p.m.

There will be kids' activities, polka bands, dancing, beer, and new this year, a historical tour (there's a $3 fee) that will point out key places in the city's past and go through the Village.
