Stone Mtn, GA Student wins at 66th Georgia Science & Engineering Fair
Jennifer Rice wins again at the school, county, state Science Fair. Last year, her project was entitled “Got Soap?” This year her project was “Juicy Lips!” She researched the history and chemistry of lip gloss making. She used beeswax and essential oils to make her product. She varied the amount of beeswax used, surveyed middle school girls at Mt Carmel Christian School (MCCS) and Bethune Middle School, used statistical analysis to compile the data, and determined that her lip gloss was marketable and helpful to the environment and cosmetic industry. She gave science “Girl Power!” She won 1st place in chemistry at MCCS school science fair in December 2013 and 1st place in chemistry at the Dekalb County Regional Science Fair Feb 2014 at Arabia Mtn High School. At the March 29, 2014, Georgia Science and Engineering Fair (GSEF) at University of GA in Athens, GA, she won 1st Place Honors in Chemistry, 1st Place American Chemical Society, Certificate for Outstanding Scientific Research, and a Nomination to compete in the Broadcom Masters. Way to go, Jen!!
