Jennifer’s most recent accomplishment is school, county, and
state Science Fair winner. Her science
project was entitled “Got Soap?” It was
about the chemistry of soap making and how to purify soap using coconut oil and
different salts. She reviewed the
history of soap making which dates back to Roman times. The fat from animals that were sacrificed on
Mt Sapo mixed with the ash from burned wood.
This made a soapy substance which was found to clean the clothes of the
women who were washing in the stream below.
Salt washing purifies soap by lowering the pH. A pH between 5 and 7 is best for skin use,
killing harmful bacteria, and acne.
Jennifer won 1st place at the Mt Carmel Christian School
Science Fair in January 2013. She won 2nd
place and a special recognition award from the U. S. Air Force at the DeKalb County
Regional Science Fair on 2/12/13. She
recently won 3rd place Honors at the 65th Georgia Science and Engineering Fair in Athens, GA
on 3/23/13.
