Stone Mountain Park's Best Family Attractions

Comfort Inn & Conference Center North Atlanta hotel highlights some of the best attractions at Stone Mountain Park. Favorites include Geyser Towers, Camp Highland Outpost, & the Lasershow.

Stone Mountain Park is one of Atlanta’s most popular family attractions.  There are plenty of adventure activities and shows to entertain children and adults.  An Adventure Pass admits visitors to most of the mountain’s attractions.  Those with limited time can purchase individual attraction tickets.  Guests can enjoy an inexpensive day of fun activities including hiking, picnicking, viewing the Lasershow, and climbing to the top of the mountain for no additional charge after paying the $10 parking fee.  Here are the highlights of Stone Mountain Park’s best family attractions.

Geyser Towers is one of the park’s newest adventures.  Adults and kids will love climbing through the structure using rope bridges and net tunnels to reach platforms on different levels.  A gushing water geyser erupts at sporadic intervals, dousing visitors in its spray.  Small children can play in the adjacent splash creek.  This is a fun way to keep cool on a summer day.

Visitors can climb through the treetops on the SkyHike adventure course.  Three levels of courses let adults and children choose their own difficulty level.  Beginners can choose a 12-foot high trail.  For a greater challenge, try the 24-foot high trail.  A 4-story high trail provides a super challenge for the most adventurous.  Participants will climb net bridges, walk across wooden suspension bridges, and balance on a single rope trail high above the ground.  Everyone stays completely safe with a harness secured to an overhead safety system.  Children under age 16 must have adult supervision.

Camp Highland Outpost is designed to provide an outdoor challenge for the entire family.  Activities include a low ropes course, rope bridges, zip lines, and rock climbing walls.  Access to Camp Highland Outpost is through SkyHike.

The Great Barn is full of fun activities geared for children ages 5-12.  They will enjoy super slides, trampoline floors, climbing apparatus, Nerf blasters, and dozens of interactive games.

The Lasershow Spectacular has been an Atlanta favorite for more than 25 years.  The dazzling neon light displays are shown right on the side of Stone Mountain.  Stories and graphics are choreographed to music, and Mountainvision technology adds a 3-D effect to the images.  The 45-minute show is viewed from the Memorial Lawn after dark.

Summit Skyride, a high speed cable car, whisks visitors to the top of Stone Mountain for amazing views.  Individual tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for ages 3-11.  For those who prefer to walk up the mountain, a one mile trail leads hikers 825 feet to the top.  The trail is accessed from the Confederate Hall parking lot.  Proper footwear is recommended, and hikers should be in good physical condition.  The trail is open daily from dawn to dusk.

A new attraction for summer 2013 is Butterfly Adventures.  The habitat area is filled with more than 1,000 beautiful butterflies.  Visitors will have opportunities to feed the butterflies and learn how to create a butterfly garden.

An Adventure Pass admits visitors to Geyser Towers, SkyHike, Camp Highland Outpost, the Great Barn, the Summit Skyride, and other shows and museums.  The pass is $28 for adults and $22 for ages 3-11.  Individual attraction tickets are $14.  Stone Mountain has a $10 per vehicle parking fee.  The park is located 16 miles east of Atlanta on US Hwy 78.
