Five Reasons to Attend Stone Mountain's Highland Games

The Scottish celebration starts Friday and lasts all weekend.

The 41st Annual Scottish Festival's Highland Games kick off in Stone Mountain this Friday, Oct. 18 and last until Sunday.

"The meadows of Stone Mountain Park will once again be filled with the sights and sounds of the Scottish highlands," it says poetically on the event's website

Why go? Here's why:

1. Piping and Drumming - An iconic element of Scottish festivals is the sound of the Great Highland Bagpipe. "The skirl of the pipes..."

2. Entertainment Stages - High quality music with a Celtic flavor.

3. Highland Athletics - Hammer throw, Clan Challenge, tossing the khyber. It's a wonder to behold.

4. Celtic Artisans - "No massed-produced stuff allowed." Sounds good to me.

5. Children's Games - Wee laddies and lassies get to frolic at the Haggis Hurl, Loch Ness Challenge, Sheep Toss, Scottish Fishing Challenge and a St. Andrews Golf Challenge.
