Code Orange Air Quality Alert for Monday

A Code Orange Air Quality Alert has been issued for our area today, with ozone levels in the unhealthy range.

...CODE ORANGE AIR QUALITY ALERT IS IN EFFECT FOR ATLANTA FOR MONDAY JUNE 18...

THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES... ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION DIVISION HAS ISSUED A CODE ORANGE /UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS/ AIR QUALITY ALERT FOR ATLANTA FOR MONDAY JUNE 18. UNDER CODE ORANGE CONDITIONS...THE OUTDOOR AIR IS LIKELY TO BE UNHEALTHY FOR SOME PEOPLE. CHILDREN...PEOPLE WHO ARE SENSITIVE TO OZONE...AND PEOPLE WITH HEART OR LUNG DISEASE SHOULD LIMIT PROLONGED OUTDOOR EXERTION DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON OR EARLY EVENING WHEN OZONE CONCENTRATIONS ARE HIGHEST.

A large area of high pressure is contributing to the stagnant airmass over Georgia. High temperatures will slowly climb through the week with some areas in Georgia approaching the upper 90s. It appears that our next chance for rain begins to return around Thursday with more tropical moisture returning by this weekend, although an isolated shower can't be ruled out, especially toward the mountains where a southeast flow and orographic lift will help to fire off a few late day thundershowers.
