Incumbent Michele Henson captured 77.18 percent of votes for newly formed Georgia House District 86, cruising to victory over opponent Lisa Kinnemore, who received 22.82 percent.
"I'm just delighted to have won tonight," Henson told Patch. "I'm looking forward to serving DeKalb once more."
Henson received 16,410 votes; Kinnemore, 4,852, with the 17 precincts reporting.
"I want to thank Lisa for running a good clean race," Henson continued. "I'm ready to begin reaching out into this new district."
Kinnemore said she valued meeting so many people in the district during her campaign.
She said she’s “grateful for the opportunity, and I just look forward to the next election in two years.”
The district includes Stone Mountain, Tucker and Decatur. It begins at I-285 at Glenwood Rd. in the south and goes north through Stone Mountain, includes portion of Lawrenceville Highway, goes into the Northlake area and heads west to Lavista and Clairmont, Henson said.
Henson wants to work with "the residents of this new district to make DeKalb an even better place to live, work and play," she said.
