Weekend Planner: Yellow Daisy, Nature Preserve Hike, Music Festival

Get out and do something locally this weekend.

 

The 44th Annual Yellow Daisy Festival

When: Now through Sunday, Sept.9 (click here for the Yellow Daisy Festival hours)

Where: Stone Mountain Park

Why go: Arts and crafters galore will be at this popular annual event. Some folks get all their holiday shopping at the Yellow Daisy Festival. Note: Admission to the festival itself is free, but you must pay a vehicle entrance fee of $10 to Stone Mountain Park.

Davidson-Arabia Nature Preserve Hikes with Ranger Robby

When: Sunday, Sept. 8, 8-10 a.m.

Where: Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve, 3787 Klondike Road, Lithonia, 30038.

Why go: A fresh morning hike seems like a great way to start off the week -- and it's free! On this 3-6 mile hike, you'll learn about natural and cultural history, geology, forestry and much more.

Note:Wear long pants, close-toed shoes, bring water, and meet at the Nature Center on Klondike Road at 8 a.m.

DeKalb Music Festival

When: Saturday, Sept. 8, 7 - 11 p.m.

Where: Panthersville Stadium, 2817 Clifton Springs Road, Decatur.

Why go: Listen to live performances by Glenn Jones, Avery Sunshine, Antoine Knight, and more. Note: Tickets are $20 in advance, government employees with ID, $15; VIP table seating for six, $150, at the door, day of the show: $25. Learn more on the DeKalb Music Festival's Facebook page.
