Mike Huckabee, former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate, has called for a "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" today, Aug. 1.  

A Facebook page created by Huckabee says that he is "incensed at the vitriolic assaults on the Chick Fil-A company because the CEO, Dan Cathy, made comments recently in which he affirmed his view that the Biblical view of marriage should be upheld."   

He stipulates that no one is being asked to carry signs, make speeches or openly demonstrate; rather, they are asked to simply show up and eat.  

As of Tuesday evening, 534,427 RSVP'd "yes" and 56,820 RSVP's "maybe."  

There are two Chick-fil-A restaurants in Stone Mountain: 5075 Stone Mountain Highway and 5542 Memorial Drive. There is also the Wesley Chapel Chick fil-A in nearby unincorporated Decatur, close to I-20.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, another group has called for a National Same-Sex Kiss Day.  Organizer Carly McGehee is the Assistant Director atFund for the Public Interest and says, "In honor of their support for love, equality, and the real definition of family, we're holding a National Same Sex Kiss Day at Chick-Fil-As around the country. So grab a friend (or 20) and head out to your nearest Chick Fil A!"

As of Tuesday evening, 8,550 RSVP'd "yes" while 2,638 RSVP'd "maybe."

While the Chick-Fil-A in Snellville on Main St. had no official comment, other owner/operators have been more vocal.  Owners of the downtown Decatur location, one of the most gay-friendly towns in the U.S, shared their thoughts on the controversy in a blog on Decatur Patch.   

"We know that some of our guests are upset by comments made by Dan Cathy, president of Chick-fil-A Inc.," owners John and Cristina Crays wrote on July 26.  "He has made it clear to me those were his personal views, and that his intent was not to speak on behalf of every Chick-fil-A owner.  We hope those who are upset will look at their relationship with our restaurant and allow us to continue to serve them.  If you have questions or concerns, please come into the restaurant and speak with me personally." 

Snellville has two Chick-fil-A locations.  One is on 2932 Main St. W. near Highpoint Rd., and the other is at 1559 Scenic Hwy., near Walmart.
