Georgia Black Veterans for Barack Obama wants Wade-Walker Park to be renamed "Barack Obama County Park," according to a recent report in Crossroads News.
The article states that the Stone Mountain-based group sent a letter back in May seeking the name change to DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis, the DeKalb County board of commissioners and U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson, whose district includes Stone Mountain.
According to Crossroads, Burke Brennan of the county CEO's office said last week that he had recently seen the letter and would let Ellis know about it. County commissioners Sharon Barnes-Sutton, Stan Watson and Larry Johnson said in the article that they supported honoring the president.
Wade-Walker Park covers 177 acres and is located between Rockbridge Road and Stone Mountain-Lithonia Road.
