Publix: Deshong, Panola and S. Hairston Stores Staying Open
The company is closing its Memorial Drive location in Stone Mountain Jan. 9.
Publix, which plans to close its Memorial Drive store in the Memorial Bend shopping center on Jan. 9, isn't closing its Deshong or Panola road locations in Stone Mountain and Lithonia, respectively, a spokeswoman told Patch.
The company "doesn't have other stores slated to close at this time," said Publix media and community relations manager Brenda Reid.
After it closes the Memorial Drive location, Publix's remaining Stone Mountain store will be at 380 N. Deshong Rd. The Lithonia Publix is at 3045 Panola Rd.
Near unincorporated Stone Mountain, Publix also has a store at 2075 S. Hairston Rd., Decatur (unincorporated).

I certainly hope they don't intend to close any more. The Panola Rd Publix seems very profitable and is in a key location near I-20. I think closing the Memorial Bend Publix is going to be traumatic enough for the community.
I'd also like to point out that there are 3, not 1 or 2, but 3 Publix stores within 10 minutes from where I stay in Conyers. Overkill much?

Whoa, 3 within 10 minutes? Reminds me of when I lived in South Florida!

I lived in North Florida and we had Winn Dixie almost on every corner with a Food Lion in the mix. As Winn Dixie started closing up shop Publix started springing up everywhere. I had one in walking distance from my home. It was a "mini" Publix or Publix market or something like that. It wasn't a big store. It's like the one in Buckhead on Northside Parkway @ the corner of West Paces Ferry. Adorable. On my way to work once I got of I-95 I passed 3 on one stretch of road, almost one for each subdisivison. In between the Publix were GATE gas stations & their mini marts. Saturated oh yeah Florida loves Publix LOL.
