The M.L. King Lions came out on top against the Stephenson Jaguars in a game full of high emotional moments and deep disappointment for both teams.

The Lions (10-0) won the Region 2-AAAAA championship with the win. Stephenson (9-1) will be the regions No. 2 seed for the first round of the playoffs next week. The Jaguars will host Lowndes, the No. 3 seed from Region 1-AAAAA. You can find completed playoff brackets on the Georgia High School Association website.

It started out fast with MLK scoring two quick touchdowns in the first two minutes of the game due to mistakes by Stephesnon. But, Stephenson shrugged off the bad start and dominated the rest of the first half. By the end of it the Jaguars led 36-20.

The second half MLK turned its offense and defense around and managed to come back from their lack of solid offense the first quarter and went ahead 44-43 with less than 4 minutes left in the game.

Stephenson answered with a drive to go back ahead 49-44 and left 28 seconds on the clock.

MLK needed a miracle, and they got it in the form of a kickoff return for the 50-49 victory.

This was an exciting game to watch. So close it could go either way on another day. Stephenson had the running game which couldn't be stopped, but MLK's passing was too tight for the defense.

You nailed it on the head, Bryce. I thought Stephenson gave a valiant effort, though.
