Volunteer Opportunities

Side by Side: Side by Side Brain Injury Clubhouse in the city of Stone Mountain as quite a number of volunteer opportunities, including clubhouse buddies, event planner/assistant, cook, gardening, exercise facilitator and much more. The Clarkston Farmers Market: The Clarkston Farmers Market is putting together a "Street Team" of community members and volunteers to spread the word about the market. They'll meet on Friday, July 27, 5 p.m. at the Clarkston Community Center, 3701 College Ave. in Clarkston, and depart from there to several destinations around the area, including neighborhoods and apartment complexes. Somali refugee youth: There's an opportunity to help Somali youth  through the Somali American Community Center (SACC). The organization said refugee youth face a number of challenges when they come to the U.S., including lack of educaiton. After-school and SACC volunteers can help. Contact: Info@somaliacc.org

Meals On Wheels: Senior Connections needs volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels throughout DeKalb County (particularly in the Decatur area). The commitment is one route per week or once or twice each month. Completing the route takes about 90 minutes. Delivery takes place Monday through Friday from Decatur, Chamblee, Lithonia; Saturdays from Toco Hills. More info is on OneDeKalb's web site. Adopt-a-Stream: DeKalb County's Department of Watershed Management's environmental outreach programs include Adopt-a-Stream. New volunteers first attend an Introduction to Adopt-A-Stream workshop (and others) where they find out about things such as program goals, water quality challenges, and more.

Rivers Alive is another program where volunteers they can get help from the DeKalb Department of Watershed Management -- with trash bags, waste hauling, and event coordination, for example -- in removing trash and debris from their local waterway.
