Though there are legitimate concerns that need to be addressed, as a resident who lives near Memorial Drive and has witnessed it spiral downward, I welcome WalMart. More legitimate retail actually would help control the crime, perhaps running out those who hand out around there with no good in mind. Bring it on. We can resolve resident concerns. And by the way, Hall's does not offer the quality it once did when Mr. Hall was alive. Perhaps competition will return that once wonderful shop to its former glory.

Thank you for your comment, Mr. Garrett. It will be interesting to see how things pan out. I was still living in Charlotte, N.C. during Memorial Drive's heyday but I understand it was really something.

I defiantly agree with Ben concerning people just hanging out all the time.
It is a problem that needs to be addressed on Memorial, but also other shopping center – IE South Hairston Road and Redan.
I feel that the DeKalb county and the corporated cities have also dropped the ball by allowing so many housing units be built without provide in cultural infrastructure – parks, community centers, real zoning – to create a real community.
I am sure everyone has noticed that Memorial is trying to improve the streetscape – it is just to bad they are create huge concrete medians and not address pedestrian/ biking routes.
They will have to try to introduce people in the area before it can return to what it once was.
