DeKalb Commissioners Stan Watson and Sharon Barnes Sutton, whose districts include parts of Stone Mountain, will host a town hall meeting to talk about proposed restrictions on soliciting donations along state and county streets, medians and stop lights.

The meeting will take place next Thursday, May 17, 7 p.m. at Exchange Park Recreation Center, 2771 Columbia Drive in  Decatur.

The commissioners say they want to inform youth sport teams, parents, and athletes of the suggested restrictions and get their input before voting on the resolution. They sent out an announcement about the town hall on Wednesday.

“I understand how rising expenses and reductions to fund athletic activities is directly impacting families, however it is imperative that the safety of our children is not compromised while innocently collecting cash,” said Watson, of Super District 7, in the announcement.

“While fundraising is essential to supporting programs and activities for our children, we want to make sure that it is done in safe and non- threatening environment,” said District 4's Sutton.
