Mr. Chen comes to Heery from his own firm, Mark Chen Architect, a design and planning consulting firm, based in New York City, whose recent work includes large-scale planning studies for mixed-use projects in Kazakhstan; Chengdu, China; and Philadelphia. Mr. Chen’s work has won a number of awards, including a Progressive Architecture citation for the Pediatric Aids Clinic at Bronx Lebanon Hospital in New York City and a Boston Society for Architects AIA award for Sharon Hospital.  His work has been published in Architectural Record and Progressive Architecture.

Formerly the Director of Design at Hillier (now RMJM), Mr. Chen was responsible for design leadership for the New York office and served as the firm's lead designer of GlaxoSmithKline's world headquarters in London. Previously, he was a Principal and Project Designer at Perkins+Will.  He assisted with the planning and design of Canary Wharf in London and University Park at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as well as urban design and planning projects in Beirut and Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Chen received a master of architecture degree from Harvard University and a bachelor of architecture from Cornell University.  He is a registered architect in several states and a LEED accredited professional.  He has been an adjunct associate professor of architecture at the New York Institute of Technology and at Syracuse University since 2001.
