City of Stone Mountain wins EarthCraft Award
ATLANTA, GA – October 24, 2012 –The City of Stone Mountain was honored with EarthCraft Light Commercial 2012 Project of the Year Award by Southface and the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association at the EarthCraft Celebration of Excellence held at the Southface Eco Office in Atlanta. This award was for leadership and excellence in green building design and construction of its new Municipal Building. This is the first municipally owned building to receive an EarthCraft Light Commercial certification, which recognizes commercial buildings less than 15,000 square feet that exemplify high-performance green building. The project boasts one of the best building envelope air tightness performance results in the history of the Earth Craft Light Commercial program.
The design and construction of the Stone Mountain Municipal Building was a team effort lead by the Stone Mountain City Manager, Barry Amos working closely with Ms. Denise Grimm of Southface, Ms. Teressa Shell of LAI Engineering, architect Mr. Bruce Morris of the Sizemore Group, and Mr. Keith Roberts with Headley Construction. “The City of Stone Mountain takes its environmental responsibility seriously and is delighted to be the first municipality to be the repentant of such a prestigious award” said Barry Amos.
The award was presented by David Ellis, executive vice president of the Greater Atlanta HBA, and Dennis Creech, executive director of Southface, in the presence of over 100 industry leaders at the Southface Eco Office.
“We are seeing positive signs that the next generation of homes and light commercial buildings in our communities are increasingly green,” said Southface’s Dennis Creech. “Thanks to the City of Stone Mountain for making it happen.”
